Kendal at Oberlin's Early Learning Center is currently seeking a creative and enthusiastic full-time Lead Teacher. Our program is NAEYC-accredited and features unique intergenerational programming, giving children the special opportunity to learn and grow alongside our beloved Grandfriends who live on campus. The Lead Teacher will play a key role in shaping the minds and hearts of young learners by creating a caring, consistent, and engaging classroom environment. The teacher will prepare materials for curriculum and learning experiences in lesson plans while providing a safe and accepting educational environment. Further responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Planning and adapting a creative curriculum based on what most preschoolers should know and be able to do.
  • Assess children's development and learning through collecting samples of children's drawings and writings and adding to the children's portfolios.
  • Paying attention to and supporting children's interests, skills and knowledge. 
  • Learn and support all KELC curricula such as Conscious Discipline by setting clear limits for children's behavior and explain reasons.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • A minimum of three years' experience working with children 2-5 years old.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or Special Education.  
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Recognition certifications or must obtain within first 90 days. 
  • Familiarity or training in Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline is a plus.
  • A genuine love for working with children and a commitment to preparing them for kindergarten.
  • Must be able to take children outside in cold weather. 
  • Must be able to lift children, if needed, weighing 30-50 pounds.
