Basic Function:
Under supervision, perform services and duties necessary to provide total care for infants 6 weeks
through 18 months. Responsible for the daily operations of the classroom and possess the ability
enhance children’s development and provide a safe place for infants to engage in activities.
Responsibilities:
 Under direction ensure that the activities of this program are consistent with the mission,
vision, and values of Merrick House.
 Greet children and families at the door at arrival and departure times.
 Operate in accordance with ODJFS Licensing Rules, Step Up to Quality Regulations and all
other applicable federal, state or local regulations.
 Maintain infant /staff ratios in accordance with state requirements.
 Prepare weekly lesson plans based on the Creative Curriculum and aligning activities to the
Ohio Early Learning & Development Standards (OELDS).
 Work with the Teacher Assistant to complete ASQ3 Screenings within 30 days of entry and
Infant/Toddler DECA Screenings within 45 days of entry on all children.
 Prepare daily activity sheets for the parents summarizing their child’s day.
 Conduct two (2) parent-teacher conferences for each child.
 Plan transition activities to facilitate moving infants from one activity to the next.
 Coordinate transitioning infants to the toddler room.
 Make sure the classroom; storage rooms are neat, clean, and in proper working order. All
harmful materials and equipment must be kept out of the reach of children.
 Decorates the bulletin boards and classroom with infant’s art work displaying them at the
children’s eye level.
 Assure that the arrangement of the classroom is developmentally appropriate and conducive
to learning, and that the materials in the room are rotated on a regular basis.
 Responsible for serving breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack for the children, taking meal
counts and returning all bottles, dishes, cups, utensils, etc. to the kitchen after each meal.
 Maintain an inventory of all baby foods and inform the ECE Director when food needs to be
purchased.
 Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the high chairs and sweeping the floor after each meal
and snack.
 Sanitize cribs and toys on a daily and weekly basis.
 Ensure cleanliness of the room by vacuuming at the end of each day and taking out the
garbage as needed.
 Maintains all paperwork, files and center forms in accordance to Center policies.
 Attend to infants when an emergency arises and administer first aid and CPR as necessary.
 Report and record any signs of illness or injury, write up an incident report, and submit it as
appropriate within 24 hours of the incident.
 Report suspected child abuse cases to the Department of Human Services and the ECE
Director immediately and submit appropriate paperwork.
 Be aware of special needs and concerns of children.
 Attend trainings and meetings as instructed.
 Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
 Combination of education and experience normally represented by an Associate’s or
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor or advanced degree including
coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education. Bachelor’s Degree
preferred.
 Must have 1 to 3 years of experience working in a childcare setting.
 Must have knowledge of the principles of child growth and development for children ages 6
weeks to 18 months.
 Current certification in first Aid and CPR (infant, child and adult), Child Abuse and
Communicable Disease or attained within six (6) months from date of hire.
 Must be able to actively interact with preschool children by having good dexterity with ability to
lift up to 40 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel and the ability to sit, stand,
walk, bend, and squat.
 Must have a good working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office and other educational
web-based programs.
 Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
 Must be able to effectively and productively work with people of very diverse economic and
cultural backgrounds.
 Must be well organized, detail oriented and have the ability to maintain confidentiality.
 Must be able to work independently from general instruction.
 Good working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software preferred.
 Medical statement signed by physician or certified nurse practitioner required including TB
test.
 Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
